Hello! We have successfully moved into our new flat after two weeks of homelessness waiting for our new flat building to be finished.  It’s been a much anticipated move!

We moved from our flat off of Cuba St. to another building even more central and completely newly renovated.  We moved with all the same flatmates except for two, and a French girl moved in with us in our new place.  There are 7 flatmates total, including us, and we’re all very happy to be under the same roof again!

Because we just moved in and are still getting landlines and internet sorted, we still don’t have our own internet access.  So, we’ve been a bit MIA lately.

In other news, Eva (my best friend) is coming from California for 10 days and we are so excited to have her!  Eva is a winemaker, and so we’re going to do a trip up the east coast of the North Island stopping through the famous Martinborough and Hawke’s Bay wine regions.  It will be so cool to get back into the countryside!

Allo! On a reussi a demenager dans notre nouvel appartement apres 2 semaines sans un chez nous et beaucoup d’attente.  On avait vraiment  hate de s’installer dans le nouvel appart!

On a demenage de notre ancienne apparte sur Cuba St a un batiment meme plus central et completement refait.  On a demenage avec tous les memes collocs a part deux.  Maintenant, on a une fille francaise qui vient de s’installer avec nous dans le nouvel apparte!  Il y a 7 collocs en total (nous inclus) et on est tres content d’habiter encore tous ensemble!

Etant donne qu’on vient de demenager, on est toujours en train d’organiser la ligne telephone, l’internet etc, alors on a toujours pas d’internet chez nous.  C’est pour cela qu’on est un peu porte disparus recemment!

On a une bonne nouvelle: ma meilleure copine de la californie (Eva) vient ici pour 10 jours et on est si content qu’elle vienne! Eva travaille comme vinifacteuse et donc on va faire un voyage le long la cote est de l’ile du nord a travers quelques regions connues pour le vin (Martinborough et Hawke’s Bay).  Ce sera vraiment chouette de partir encore dans la compagne!

Comme le titre l’indique, voici un petit compte rendu photo de notre trip de 3 jours sur le fleuve Whanganui, au beau milieu de l’ile Nord. Trip 100% nature, canoe et camping. Ca fait du bien!

Petite note en passant, Whanganui est la riviere utilisee dans plusieurs scenes du Seigneur des Anneaux, de Willow et beaucoup d’autres films.

Fun fact: the river was used many times for several scenes of the Lord of the rings, Willow and many other movies. How cool?!!

New pictures from our trip to Kapiti Island. Very cool trip, not far from Wellington.
The island is located 5 miles away from the coast and the only inhabitants are the rare birds living on the island. Excellent experience.

Alright, the post I’ve been most excited about, being a big language buff! We’ve been living here in NZ for 3 1/2 months now, and we’ve been able to pick up on some of the typically Kiwi utterances! Here it is, some uniquely kiwi expressions and vocabulary for you:

Voilà le post que j’avais le plus hate, étant donné que je suis folle des langues. Ça fait 3 1/2 mois qu’on habite en NZ, et on a eu l’occasion d’apprendre pas mal d’habitudes verbales typiquement Kiwi! Voici quelques expressions et vocabulaire unique parmi les Kiwis:

Vocabulary - Vocabulaire:

candy (bons bons) = ‘lollies’

dinner (dîner) = ‘tea’

diaper (couche) = ‘nappie’

flip-flops (claquettes/thongs) = ‘jandals

apartment (appartement) = ‘flat’

cigarettes = ‘fags’

fries (frites) = ‘chips’

napkins (serviettes) = ’serviettes’

undies (slips) = ‘knickers’

buddy (pote) = ‘mate’ or ‘bro’

trunk- of a car (coffre) = ‘boot’

lots, tons, a lot (beaucoup, des tas) = ‘heaps’

hood- of a car (capot) = ‘bonnet’

small, little (petit) = ‘wee’

bummed, disappointed (dégouter) = ‘gutted’

mom (maman) = ‘mum’

Expressions!!

-’Sweet as’= sweet, awesome (cool, super)

-Adjective + ‘as’ - ie. ‘I’m cold as!’ = I’m really cold ( j’ai super froid)

-’She’ll be alright’ = It’ll be alright, it’s cool (ça va, ça va aller)

-’Come on Richard!’ = Oh come on! (allez la!, un peu le même concept qu’a la tienne Etienne)

-’_____ eh?’ = isn’t/aren’t + subject (hein)

-’Hard out’

1.adjective: as in, ‘that’s hard out’ = that’s hard core, intense (c’est ouf, c’est un truc de fou)

2. noun: as in, ’she’s a hard out’ = she goes all out (elle y va à fond)

3. intensifier: as in, ‘he’s hard out sulking/sulking hard out’= he’s seriously sulking, (il fait la tête grave)

4. adverb: as in ‘they skiied hard out’ = they skiied like crazy (ils ont fait du ski comme des foux)

5.exclamation: as in, ‘hard out, bro’ or just ‘hard out’ = wow, cool, no kidding (tu m’etonnes)

En Nouvelle Zelande on klaxonne dans les tunnels de wellington, juste pour le fun. Je vous racontes pas le bordel - There is a game concisting of honking as much as possbile in the tunnels of Wellington. The result is a big noisy mess.

Anti-tobacco campaings are very graphic. Les campagnes anti-tabac sur les paquets de cigarettes sont tres explicites, comme vous pouvez le voir.

Just like in England, kids wear uniforms at school - Pareil qu'en Angleterre, l'uniforme est obligatoire a l'ecole.

Gas price is displayed in cents. - Les prix de l'essence sont affiches en centimes

Nous, on a eut l’honneur d’etre l’un des premiers pays au monde a entrer dans l’annee 2009 ici en Nouvelle Zelande (les iles Kiribati - Christmas Islands nous battent de peu).

Au programme de notre New Year’s eve: bronzette, excellent BBQ et super private party sur les hateurs de Wellington. Pas de doute c’est une annee qui commence bien!

We had the chance to be amongst the first to enter 2009, here in New Zealand (Kiribati - Christmas Islands beat us by almost nothing).

On our New Year’s Eve program: sun bathing, excellent bbq food and private party in the hills of Wellington. It sure is a year that starts well

Joyeux Noel tout le monde!

J’espere que father Noel a ete cool avec vous cette annee. Pour nous c’etais pas mal du tout!
On avait plein de cadeaux sous le sapin (ca aide quand on est 8 colocs dans l’appart).

On a profite du beau temps hier pour faire une ballade en ville et un footing le long de la plage aujourd’hui… ici Noel marque le debut de l’ete, il fait entre 20 et 25 degres en ce moment, meme si c’est pas tous les jour encore stable.

Merry Christmas everybody! Was Santa generous for you this year?
For us, we can’t complain, there were a bunch of presents under the Christmas tree (it’s probably easier when 8 people live in the flat).
We are enjoying the sunny weather, around 70 degrees Fahrenheit outside this week. We had a little walk downtown for Christmas day, followed by a nice dinner with flatmates and friends.

On profite du beau temps pour visiter un peu plus Wellington.

La semaine derniere on est allé faire un tour à la foire de Thorndon, un grand marché artisanal qui s’étend sur plusieurs rues. Le quartier ressemble étrangement à plusieurs rues de San Francisco.

Au passage on en à profité pour faire un tour a Rose Garden, un super jardin publique qui propose une collection de rose impressionante.

We’re taking advantage of the sunny weather to visit the city a little bit more.

Last week we went to the Thorndon artisanal fair, tons of local artisanal products in a neighbourhood that looks like San Francisco.

We also spent some time in the Wellington Rose Garde to admire its impressive collection of flowers.
